How the rates work
England & Northern Ireland (SDLT): nil to £125,000, then 2%, 5% above £250,000, 10% above £925,000 and 12% above £1.5m. First-time buyers pay nothing up to £300,000 where the price is £500,000 or less. Second homes add 5%.
Scotland (LBTT): nil to £145,000 (£175,000 for first-time buyers), then 2%, 5% above £250,000, 10% above £325,000 and 12% above £750,000. The Additional Dwelling Supplement is 8%.
Wales (LTT): nil to £225,000, then 6%, 7.5% above £400,000, 10% above £750,000 and 12% above £1.5m. There is no first-time buyer relief; additional properties use a separate higher-rate table starting at 5%.
